FAQs

What is Dry Needling?

Dry needling (DN) is a form of therapy in which fine needles are inserted into specific points on the body. DN is similar to Acupuncture in the sense that is uses the same types of needles, which are inserted into the skin to alleviate pain. However, DN follows evidence-based guidelines, with recommended trigger point locations, and dosages for the treatment of specific conditions. Whereas, acupuncture is used to alter the flow of Qi (energy) along traditional Chinese meridians.

Therapists will primarily use DN to address neuromuscular conditions, improving range of motion and relieving pain. Evidence has shown that DN reduces muscular tension, helps with pain management and can normalise motor end plate dysfunction (the sites at which nerve impulses are transmitted to muscles).
