FAQs

What’s the difference between a Sports Therapist, a Sports Massage Therapist and a Sports Rehabilitator?

There are a few differences between our therapists in the clinic, but our treatments are very aligned when it comes to the assessment and treatment techniques. We find working coherently gives our clients a seamless transition when swapping practitioners.

Sports Therapy & Sports Rehabilitation concentrates on musculoskeletal injuries, using a variety of skills to treat and prevent sporting and non-sporting injuries, including sports massage (as a sports massage therapist would), joint mobilisations (as a physiotherapist would) and rehabilitation exercises to help return the individual back to functional fitness and to help prevent the injury from reoccurring. Injuries include muscle, ligament, tendon, joint and neurological issues/injuries.

Our sports massage sessions are perfect for maintenance work or prevention of injuries, as we want to future proof your bodies and keep you fighting fit!

The sports massages will focus on relieving tension from the muscles that are tight or causing discomfort/pain, using a variety of massage techniques. This will also include a short assessment within your treatment, to ensure your therapist is targeting the correct muscles to get to the root of the cause, rather than just treating a symptom of the pain. Within your sports massages, we will also use a variety of other treatment techniques, including Cupping therapy and Myofascial release work (IASTM), which will be discussed before using. We find this will give you the best possible results.

What treatment do I book in for?

A sports massage treatment will be for you if you are after more of a general treatment as opposed to an injury treatment. If you are suffering from an injury and it’s either acute or chronic and won’t settle down, it will be worth booking in for an injury treatment initially, so we can assess and treat this correctly before moving you over to sports massage treatments.

Each of our therapists will use a variety of treatment techniques to help resolve your issue within both injury and sports massage treatments.

At Back to Fitness, we love the fact that we can offer hands on treatment as well as constructing a functional rehabilitation program tailored to the individual’s specific needs. Personally, we believe hands on treatment is the missing key to the generic rehab only physiotherapy appointments you may have received in the past.
